Painting Stone/masonry

Hey, I am just working on bidding an exterior repaint on an old home and would like some input. The lower 10-12 foot sections are what seem to be a manufactured stone of some kind, and at this point are unpainted. Apparently the home is from an 1890's Montgomery Wards cataloge kit house. The home owners would like the "stone" painted. I imagine I would just use a good primer and paint it like I would concrete. I have tried doing research on what material this stuff actually is, but hard to tell. Anyone happen to have any experience with this, or suggestions
