Project Scheduling And Management For Construction

Schedule Management is the act of communicating, developing and maintaining schedules within the specified time frame and available resources.

A Construction Project Management Schedule is the order of activities for a given project. It shows the progress of the project work over a given period and considering some project constraints such as limited resources and government regulations.

The Scheduling Process begins with the tasks that are required to deliver the stakeholder requisite. It includes the technical activities that give the desired deliverable, the change made to the process to provide outputs, and the construction project management works that manage and control some critical sections of the project such as risk, finances and stakeholder expectation.

The Project Schedule gives the full details of the activities of the project to ensure construction projects are carried out at minimum risk and the desired deliverable is obtained. The project management Schedule should be able to give details about the duration of the entire project or the tasks required to execute the plan. In addition to this, the program should be able to provide information on:

• Who is responsible for each stage of the construction project?

• The methodology to be employed

• The expected output of the project

• The exact time at which important decisions are made

Some tasks are easily defined much more than other jobs. The functions required to erect a building is straightforward right from the on start. Until an inspection is done, the tasks needed to maintain a machine is unknown. Engineering tasks must have been clearly defined before the commencement of the project while some IT projects which require some modification along the process, a more iterative method can be used in determining the tasks.

Projects are the driving force that will give birth to the future company and assist the company in achieving its goals and objectives. To ensure an organization can survive and stay on top of the game, the company must adopt an effective construction project management system. Without proper planning, projects have a very high probability of incurring additional costs.

One of the essential requirements for a successful project management outcome is the ability to create and manage a construction project schedule. The project schedule forms the foundation on which resource and cost plans are built and provides information on all the stages, activities of the overall project. It shows the project status on the financial reports and analysis.

Construction project management schedule can be used to measure the project status accurately and give warning to challenging aspects, allowing risk management.

Key features to Construction Project Management Schedule

• Baseline to the mode of growth - no conceptual term such as "early" or "later" does not have meaning

• Project breakdown into the labor-sharing structure based on deliveries/outputs

• A list of responsibilities for different activities

• A clear way to show the confidence of the project

• See important dates, events, and deadlines.

• A pictorial representation of the project's progress

Detailed scheduling takes place at the project level, and this is where outputs are produced. The scheduling techniques will depend upon the nature of the project concerning cost, time and scope.

Projects are a time-bound endeavor that has to be delivered within a particular date, using limited resources and a given the plan. Some projects have the full details of work to be done, or the life cycle can be used to develop the scope of work using the iterative method; this is sometimes called Agile project management.

Schedule Management is in line with other processes such as the scope of governance, risk management, and quality management. At the beginning of the project life cycle, the amount of detailed information available is limited. A Schedule may be limited to showing target dates for important events. Because it is not calculated from a complete job description, the years of the milestones at the beginning can be estimated using the estimates or the parametric estimation forms.

Once the scope management has identified the required work, a detailed model can be developed that shows how the work is to be done. Several models can be used in the model to calculate start and end dates for all component activities. The estimated time to perform the job is only considered in this method, while others could give room for resource and productivity rates.

Typically, the schedule is focused on technical activity to save the project output. It has become common to include Scheduling Management activities, such as the Communication Activity, Quality Control Activity, or Activity Specialist. In some cases, it is combined with a full schedule and sometimes has different forms, though there should be a mechanism to monitor interfaces between programs.
